I've had a few requests for directions for the Pennant gift boxes I made with the Sizzix Pennant Bigz XL Die, so I figured it would just be easier to post them here. (excuse the dish pan hands!)
Step 1. Die cut 2 pennants out of card stock - I used Kiwi Kiss, and 1 pennant out of scrap paper for a template. On the template scrap - cut off the edges at the perforations to make a triangle.
Step 2. Cut 2 strips of Kiwi Kiss card stock - 11"x3", score 1/2" on both long sides. Then score from the end at 1 1/2" & 10". Cut out the corners of both strips to leave flaps. Cut off the larger flap on only 1 strip. (see photo)
Cut 1 strip of Kiwi Kiss card stock - 7 1/2" x 3 1/2", score 1/2" on one long side & 1" on the other long side.
step 3. Using scissors trim off corners to make angled edges and apply sticky strip to scored flaps. Make sure on the 7 1/2" x 3 1/2" strip - you only apply sticky strip to one edge (this is the flap to open & close the box - you don't want it completely sealed!)
step 4. Following the perforated line as a guide, attach the longest strip to the pennant with the 1 1/2" flap at the top.
step 5. Attach the next strip to the other side, and then attach it to the flap at the top of the tree. Attach the bottom of the "box", same as the other 2 flaps.
step 6. Using your template scrap, trace the triangle on the back of a piece of ds paper - I used Ski Slope from the Holiday Mini and cut it out.
step 7. Attach cut out to the top of your box.
step 8. Using the elastic cord (gold or silver), glue one end into the top of your tree and wrap around the scallops. Flip over the box and put some glue behind the scallops to keep cord from slipping off.
step 9. Using the Large Star Punch, punch a star out of So Saffron card stock - attach to the top of the tree. Using the Rounded Tab Punch, punch a tab out of Chocolate Chip card stock - attach to the bottom flap to be the trunk of the tree & also a pull tab to open the box. You can add a little tag or just leave it as a Christmas Tree.
You can see the completed Christmas boxes here and the Birthday boxes here! Also, keep in mind you can make you box any width you'd like, just add in the extra 1/2" on either side for scoring.
Thanks for stopping by!
Today I experienced my first crop. I know, it's hard to believe! What a fun day it was and I actually got 2 spreads completed and made layouts for 3 other pages, using up some retired scrapping kits. Here are the 2 pages that I completed.
The first one is from Halloween this year (and also qualifies for the color challenge 2 weeks ago- yes, I am sooo late on that one!) It uses some old ds paper that is retired. The pumpkins are sizzix die cuts & I used them for the journaling.
The second one is of AJ's football season. I plugged in all the photos, then stamped on them with the Sporting stamp set (Thanks Colleen for letting me borrow it ions ago!) and white craft ink. I cut up a football background paper to fill in the mosaic.
I am definately going to more crops! Shout out to all the girls in the North Jersey Cropping Circle - thanks for a fun day!
Here is another gift box idea with the Pennant Bigz XL Die. It is made the same way as the Birthday Boxes I posted before. The bottom opens up to insert the gift item. Enjoy your gift wrapping!

I love the days leading up to a holiday like Halloween. The fall colors, the excitement, the crisp weather- well, crisp is an understatement today! It is actually snowing here in North NJ! I hope this isn't a peek to what our winter will be like! It's hard to believe just 2 days ago we were on the back porch cleaning out pumpkins in sweatshirts!
The other day I was hanging out with Stasia & Colleen while the kids were in school and finally scrapped our trip to Sleepy Hollow. I used the Sizzix Top Note Die to make a tombstone and used the Sizzix alphabet, Go-Go Boots to make the letters "RIP" on the base. I found some old background paper in my craft closet and made simple photo mats around the photos.
Enjoy your day, I'm off to make a cup of tea & turn the heat up!
Ok, I admit it... when I bought this die, it was only because I fell in love with the reindeer gift bag I saw at convention and I honestly thought - now what will I do with it! Well, I am still in love with this die and it has so much potential! Besides the given of a banner or pennant - you can make gift boxes with it! Granted, you can't stick a shirt in it (well, maybe a t-shirt), but it would be great for a little something!
Here are some birthday gift boxes made with the Simple Birthday Thanks stamp. I die cut the large pennants in Kiwi Kiss, made the sides & top with Pacific Point. Then I cut strips of Kiwi Kiss, Pacific Point & Only Orange and curled them around a pen to add to the top. The cupcake decorations are some orange brads I had stored away. The cupcake bottom is Kiwi Kiss run thru the crimper with some old Tangerine grosgrain. Think outside the giftbag for your next gift!
Well, it has been quite a week or two. We have been struggling with a heritage report, book reports, football season & girl scout projects! By the time the kids go to bed at night, I am counting sheep on the couch! I have been working on the halloween favors for the kid's class parties next week... AJ picked the top note faces and Rachael wanted the brooms, so that has kept me busy during the day.
Here is last weeks color challenge: Regal Rose, Pretty in Pink and Old Olive. I used the set Party Hearty and cased a layout from... I can't find the link - if you recognize it, let me know & I'll add the link. Make sure you check out the other color girls creations!
Here is this weeks: Not Quite Navy and Creamy Caramel!
Have a great week!
Happy Tuesday to you! I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend - what beautiful weather! The kids had Friday & Monday off so we ended up quite busy. Friday, we headed apple picking with our neighbors, this has become a nice yearly event. Although, the pickings were quite slim by the time we went this year, the kids still had a lot of fun. Of course we had to pick up a pumpkin too!
Saturday, Colleen & I had a table at ALF and unfortunately, not many people could find us! They rearranged the set up this year and it didn't work very well. It was nice to have some social time without the kids!
On Sunday, AJ had a game in the morning and then that evening we headed up to Sleepy Hollow, NY! We checked out the cemetery and the famous Headless Horseman bridge - the only downside was to find out Rachael is a little freaked by cemeteries. Next we were off to the Blaze pumpkin event! Over 4,000 carved pumpkins! If you haven't gone - check it out for next year! www.hudsonvalley.org
Of course AJ had to do his headless horseman imitation. The bumper sticker reads: I lost my head in Sleepy Hollow, NY. By Monday, we were all tuckered out! I can't wait to scrap these! Be back to stamping soon!
Have a great week!
